Four Latin Grammy awards were given to Cubans. Two of them live in the US, Arturo Sandoval and Yalil Guerra and one lives in Cuba Eliades Ochoa.
Arturo Sandoval was awarded two Latin Grammies, one for best album “Dear Diz, Every Day I Think of You” (the sound was also awarded) and for best tango album with “Tango, como yo te siento”. Sandoval was long ago helped by Dizzy Gillespie to leave Cuba, in order to save him as a musician from being suffocated in the land of terror and prohibitions.
Yalil Guerra, a young Cuban American composer was awarded for best classical contermporary composition with the piano peace “Seduction” from the album “Live in LA”. He is an interesting composer, played as it seems quite a lot in the US and elsewhere.
Eliades Ochoa who lives in Cuba and participated in the group Buena Vista Social Club, won an award as a soloist for the best traditional album with “Un bolero para ti”.
