Dangerous - By Tracy Eaton Published on Vimeo - 2013
Dangerous is a documentary by Tracy Eaton where two Cuban brothers are interviewed, José Daniel Ferrer in the eastern province Santiago de Cuba and his brother Luis Enrique Ferrer in Miami, who are working together with peaceful means for a free and democratic Cuba. They were both imprisoned 2003 during the Black Spring in Cuba and got very hard sentences. In prison they planned their future work together and decided that one should be outside the country to support the other inside. José Daniel the elder brother stayed in Cuba and has managed in a very short time to set up an impresive movement of peaceful activists starting out in the eastern province of Santiago de Cuba. This movement, UNPACU, is now spread in most cities of eastern Cuba, in several cities in central Cuba and in Matanzas and to a lesser degree in Havana. The movement creates cells where people are trained in peaceful activism and their intention is to reach out to the population by being seen in the streets, by home visits, by information through flyers, stickers, protest marches, grafitti, videos etc and by social support activities. The movement is by far the most active and most successful movement in Cuba at the moment and is therefore also suffering very hard repression and has some 30-40 polticial prisoners. In Santiago de Cuba the movement is known by most of the inhabitants and many start to turn to the movement for help or for denouncing problems. UNPACU has also assisted in the very quick growth of the Ladies in White particularly in Santiago de Cuba, but this is also ongoing in Santa Clara, Matanzas, Holguin and other cities.
